From recruiting and training to marketing and internal communications, business videos help companies attract talent, educate employees, strengthen company culture, and drive growth.
One of our favorite things about the work that we do is the variety. Day to day, we’re with different kinds of clients who do different kinds of work, creating different kinds of business videos tailored specifically to their needs. Thus, one of the great perks of our business is that we learn a lot – about our clients, their industries, and their particular niche. From medical care and research, to construction and infrastructure, to logistics, higher education, and fitness, we’re lucky to be able to see some of the best work being done in these fields (and more!).
Yet despite the differences, we’ve noticed our clients across the board are coming to us for similar kinds of videos. And while there is a certain amount of specificity within those videos, their purpose is the same. So, we’ve identified 4 types of business videos that represent the bulk of what we produce – Recruiting, Training, Internal Communications, and Marketing. Now, we’ll explore each category we’ve identified, highlight some of the benefits, and provide some examples. Let’s dive in!
Video Type #1: Recruiting Videos for Hiring Top Talent
We’ve worked with both small business owners and corporate HR departments and have heard time and again that hiring employees is a challenge – especially when you’re trying to get the right people for the job. When a candidate has access to videos produced specifically for recruiting employees, they can get a sense of what the company is all about, what a specific job entails, and what current employees are experiencing. Having this knowledge up-front can often help filter candidates prior to application, resulting in a pool of people who are both qualified and share your company’s values.
Here is an example of a recruiting video produced for one of our clients, looking to recruit veterans, specifically.
Video Type #2: Training Videos for Employee Development
Do you have new employee onboarding processes you need to communicate? Are there procedures or safety protocols that need to be shared throughout your company? For many of our clients, training videos have had an instrumental role in their operations. Particularly as an organization grows, employee training can be difficult to maintain. Consistency, scalability, and cost can be problematic, as more people and locations become involved. Putting training sessions on video can eliminate inconsistent messaging and associated travel costs while also providing something that can easily be referred to and accessed at any time, by anyone, at any location.
We can’t provide an example since we don’t share our clients’ training materials, but you can explore the benefits of employee training videos in this blog post.
Video Type #3: Internal Communications Videos for Company Alignment
Particularly for our larger clients, using video for internal communications has become a great strategy for keeping the entire company informed and on the same page.
- We produce a video podcast for one of our clients to make it easier for people to hear from leadership, highlight different areas of the company, and address questions and feedback.
- We worked with another client to produce a video highlighting a company-wide initiative that was implemented successfully at one of their sites, encouraging other sites to participate as well.
- We have also produced videos to promote and re-cap company-wide meetings and conferences, in order to motivate attendance and inform those who couldn’t be there.
The list goes on. Video is one of the most effective ways to keep everyone connected.
Take a look at this video, which provided a way for both companies involved to showcase their successful partnership and give a glimpse of their operation to leadership.
Video Type #4: Marketing Videos for Business Growth
Perhaps the most obvious way to use video is for marketing. After all, companies have been using video as part of their marketing strategies for decades. However, it stands the test of time, because it is effective. Through video, you can explain who you are and what you do, showcase a successful project, show people what makes you stand out in your field, or highlight a customer testimonial. Gathering content for your website or social media channels also falls into this category.
These videos provide potential customers with content that answers their questions, focuses on how you can solve their problems, and shows the people and projects behind your brand. Having a strong presence in your field helps move people to action, whether it’s scheduling a meeting, requesting a bid, or purchasing your product.
Produced in conjunction with Cosgrove Partners, this video for Arcamed serves as a marketing piece to showcase the work that they do and the value they provide to their customers, highlighting some of their recent facility updates.
Of course, there will be the odd video that may not fit tidily within these categories or might be some combination of them. However, we’ve produced these types of videos so frequently and for such a wide variety of clients that we’ve even used them to categorize our video production services and portfolio here on our website!
How to get started
As we’ve seen firsthand, recruiting videos, training videos, internal communications videos, and marketing videos can help businesses improve operations, strengthen communication, and accelerate growth. If you can see yourself utilizing video in these areas but aren’t sure where to start, think about your priorities.
- What are your greatest pain-points as an organization?
- Could video in one of these areas help alleviate frustration and bring success instead?
- What kind of video could have the greatest impact on your business?
- Or even, what would be the quickest, easiest video for me to plan and execute first?
Answering these questions can help you chart your path forward in putting videos to work for your business.
